Consumptive water use

The term 'Consumptive water use ' as it applies to the area of agriculture can be defined as ' Water removed from available supplies without return to a water resources system, e.g., water used in manufacturing, agriculture, and food preparation. Crop consumptive water use is the amount of water transpired during plant growth plus what evaporated from the soil surface and foliage in the crop area'.
